hi hi hi welcome to the novel nest that i absolutely should not under any circumstances be making 

despite the fact that law school is kicking my ass and i know full well i will be spending most of november studying, i am still joining nano with the attempts of fulfilling a modest goal of 10k words of absolute complete and utter nonsense.

so yes, i am working on the chatfic.

new romantics is my chaotic chatfic baby. every character in this fic is just as much of a disaster as i am which makes it a grand ol' time to write. the amount of dumbassery is astronomical. sirius and remus are best friends who have drunkenly hooked up so many times that james and peter keep a running tally of it. marlene has run into her ex too many times for it to just be coincidence. james and lily are... well, that's what the spinoff's for. 

anyways, i have no idea how long this fic is going to be in its totality. i have no idea how it's going to end. i have no idea what else is going to happen other than a few random and specific scenes. (there's a theme here and it's that i have no idea what i'm doing in any respect. which is on brand.)

but also! spinoff! it's so romantic (stolen from the bridge of new romantics the song) is a collection of direct messages between lily and james, interspersed with some non-chatfic moments as well. it really only exists because there were a number of moments in the main fic where i came up with what james and lily were really up to and then was upset i couldn't put it in the fic itself. and here we are. i'm probably entering it in @abhorsen.'s text me a trope challenge because it checks a fuckton of trope boxes.

 

anyways. that's it. i'm gonna crawl back in my law school shell now.

Hey Taylor! I think so far I’ve only read the first chapter of your new romantics chatfic, but nevertheless I am still excited for this jily spin-off!! I’ve got some questions for you:

1. How do you keep the feeling of writing jily fresh as you continue various AUs of their relationship?
2. 10,000 words for you is relatively modest (lol), but what do you think will be the biggest obstacle for you to reach this goal during November?
3. Are you going to post this as soon as it’s done or do you think you’ll sit on it for a bit to edit somewhat?
4. What do you find easier (or more difficult) about writing chatfics over standard narrative writing?
