Hawksquill Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Is it too late to do one of these? I'm gonna say no because I absolutely love this idea. In comparison to many other people I've been very lucky and scraped through 2020 without too much damage, but it's been tough on my mental health. I haven't seen my family in over a year and won't get to see them for Christmas, which is going to be so hard even though I'll have my amazing husband and cats for company. My number one wish is for everyone to take care of themselves this holiday season. If you're able to share it with family, friends, or loved ones, I hope you have so much fun and stay safe! If you're going to have a hard time like I am, I hope you make yourself a beverage and snack of your choice, snuggle up with a blanket, and do whatever makes you happy. These are some of my wishes, in no particular order. 1. Giving back in some way! Whether that's granting someone else's wish on FFT, donating to a charity, or volunteering. I'm planning to give to a local food bank, homeless shelter, and a few other charities for things like childhood literacy and welcoming immigrants and refugees to my community. 2. Reviews! I love reviews so much. My author page on the FFT archive is here, and I also post under the same name on AO3 and FFN. Stories I'd particularly love reviews on are Luna Lovegood and the Forgotten Circle, Beneath This Mortal Earth, How I Would Like to Believe in Tenderness, and This Prison and the Next. Anything is very much appreciated, even just a kudos/like/favorite if you enjoyed it but aren't much of a commenter 3. Picspams, banners, graphics, playlists, quizzes, or any other creative endeavor inspired by any of my fics! 4. WJ questions 5. Recommendations - fics, books, music, movies, anything! I will say I'm not much of a podcast person, though. A few of my favorite fic tropes, genres, shows, and music are below. 6. I'm an extreme introvert and have trouble reaching out to people even when I want to get to know them better, so honestly, talking to me about anything or opening a convo with me here, on PM, or over Discord! Tell me about yourself, ask me questions, give me prompts, recs, anything. 7. Writing a fic for me?? Is that a thing that can happen?? honestly omg I'd be so flattered. I love AUs, weird stuff with time travel, angst, grief, queer everything, complex women, non-Harry centric, non-Hogwarts centric (although I also love a good Hogwarts fic, don't get me wrong), interesting premises, slightly sympathetic but not magically all redeeming looks at villains and morally gray characters. Favorite pairings include Luna/Ginny, Luna/Dean, Luna/Harry, Tonks/Fleur, Harry/Cedric, Harry/Bill, I'm honestly pretty ship agnostic if the fic grips me enough. Some more about me: -I'm an archivist, which is sometimes exactly as cool as it sounds and sometimes much less cool than it sounds. -I've lived in 5 states and 3 countries! -I have two cats who are the lights of the life and the banes of my existence -I love board games and ttrpgs -I make my own soap! 2020 has absolutely killed all my hobbies apart from reading and writing, but maybe I'll get back to it in 2021 -I love to read. I set myself an annual reading challenge every year and thanks to quarantine this year, I've read 50 books so far in 2020! My goal is to get to 52 by the end of the year, or one per week. I also like "year of" book challenges, where online communities set themselves a goal of reading a very long or difficult book together on a schedule throughout the year. I did Middlemarch this year, and I'd like to do something like Count of Montecristo in 2021. -I'm an Animal Crossing addict and have played since Gamecube. Some of my favorite things: Books: literary fiction, magical realism, nonfiction, Afrofuturism, fantasy, classics Music: Indie folk, folk, pop punk, postpunk, rock, alt rock, pop. TV shows: Some of my favorites are Parks and Rec, Fleabag, United States of Tara, the Americans, Arrested Development, North and South, Doctor Who, and I'm currently working my way through Breaking Bad for the first time! Movies: Some of my favorites are Lady Bird, Never Let Me Go, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, Atomic Blonde,2005 Pride and Prejudice, Now and Then, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Addams Family Values, and a Christmas Story. Colors: Green, teal, purple, orange. Animals: Cats, obviously. Also, elephants. Thanks so much for reading, and happy holidays!
Oregonian Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Hi, Hawksquill! No, It's absolutely not too late to do one of these wish lists. (I started mine kind of late also, so I absolutely cannot criticize.) We'll help you catch up by spreading a little love your way. I'll go over to your AP after I knock our a few more Christmas cards and check out your favorite stories. I'm Vicki, of Slytherin House. I'm a mom and a grandma (no pets at present), focused on writing a wide variety of stuff (things that other people haven't written). Talk with you later!

ineffable_season Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Hiya! You were one of the first people I talked to on here, so of course I am stopping by again to wish you well this December! I know being without family is hard, especially if it's what you're used to this time of year. We normally do a Friendsmas, and this year we didn't, and it was pretty sad. I also normally go and see The Nutcracker, but am thankful the local company has a virtual option that I can still watch. So while it's not the same, I can recapture some of the holiday spirit. My husband and I also started a new tradition of watching a holiday movie every night. It's something small that we can share while still feeling good about the season. Anyway, I am happy to hear that you have a great husband and kitties to make the holiday season brighter for you! Also, I don't know why I was rambling here...maybe to fulfill one of your wishes to learn more about people here. I am such an introvert as well with extrovert tendencies (had to learn this for my job). But even though I seem totally cool about sharing all of this with you, I'll probably inwardly agonize about if I was too overly familiar or not LOL. BUT. I am so excited to see that we're now buds on Goodreads. I'm hopeful to read more in 2021 than I did this year. I knew this year would likely be a wash, what with having a baby and all. But I can't wait to see what you end up reading and learning more about you through your love of books! Oh, and also, I left you a review on Beneath this Mortal Earth. It was absolutely beautiful! I apologize in advance for saying the word a million times in my review. I was really almost rendered speechless. I also need to stop being super lazy and just read Forgotten Circle on AO3 because I really enjoyed what you already posted on the archives here. Anyway, feel free to message me anytime! (Or maybe I just will hehe). Courtney
Oregonian Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Hi, Hawksquill. I have now finished my Christmas cards, and as I promised you, I have left a review for you on your story This Prison and the Next, which didn't have any reviews when I first read it, but which gained a review before the Christmas cards were finished. So now it has two. A very happy Christmas to you, even in these strange times. Vicki
Felpata_Lupin Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Hello, there! I've left you a review on This prison and the next and I really enjoyed reading it, such a great story! Hope you'll have a great holiday season!
starlitcastles Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Hello! I don't think we've ever interacted before and I'll be sending you a message as well but wanted to drop by to say that I enjoyed seeing your wishlist and also getting to know you more about you as well. I also left you some WJ Questions for you to answer which can be found here and even left you a review for This Prison and the Next as well. I do hope that we get to know each other and or interact more on here as well. That being said: I hope that you also have a warm, safe, and magical holiday season!

Going to see the Nutcracker seems like an awesome tradition, I'm sure watching it virtually isn't quite the same but I hope you still have a lot of fun! And watching holiday movies with your husband seems like the start of another great tradition! And yes, I'm glad we're friends on Goodreads too! I love seeing what people have been reading. I was really lucky this yea because quarantine got me reading more than I ever have before. I'm not debating whether I should preemptively set myself a lower annual reading goal for 2021, or just set the bar high and see if I can make it! And please don't worry about being overly familiar, it's something I think we introverts do a lot. I remember chatting to you when we were both new on the site and And thank you so much for the review of Beneath This Mortal Earth! You're so kind. I was really proud of that fic, it's probably the most thematically serious thing I've ever written, fan fic or OF, and I worked really hard on making the prose feel beautiful. So it means a lot to hear you say that Andddd I should probably eventually get around to posting the rest of Forgotten Circle on the archives, to be honest! Something about the formatting for that fic in particular just never wants to cooperate. I'll get around to it eventually! On 12/18/2020 at 6:30 PM, Oregonian said: Hi, Hawksquill. Darling_take_off_the_mask Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Happy holidays! I kudos-bombed your AO3 page and DM'ed you on Discord, hope to get to know you better! IDK what I'm most excited to know about -- your cats, soap-making, best book you've read this year, favorite fic you've written so far, or just exactly what an archivist does (because yeah it sounds really cool despite me not actually being to articulate a job description for it) but I look forward to hearing from you!
