Pass It Along Challenge Alter Guessing Thread

Hello All,

 

The Pass It Along Challenge has now come to an end. I hope you've all had lots of fun! I know I had a blast seeing all of the gift giving and what everyone came up with. I'm pleased to say that of the 20 people who participated, I didn't have anyone who didn't leave a gift!

 

I'd like to say a very special thank you to Mallory (UnluckyStar57), Meg (MegGonagall), and Renee (MuggleMaybe) for helping me with gift delivery and keeping everything organized. If you haven't had a chance to get to know them, you should because they are some truly awesome people!

 

Now, as you know, everyone's been busy running around leaving gifts under alter guises. Below is a list of Participants and a list of Alter names. Your job here is to guess 15 of the 20 alter names. So pick 15 alters, not including yourself...and get to matching them with the person you believe them to be. (Please, don't put yourself on the list and give away your secret identity)

 

If you'd like to guess at only the alter who left you gifts, you may feel free to do so, however, I will be unable to confirm if you've gotten it correct until the end of the activity. You also will not qualify for the special prize.

Question: If we're submitting our lists publicly to this thread... it seems like we would each be outing ourselves as the people we were, cause our lists would either flat out admit who our alternate identity was, or process of elimination would determine it. Am I misunderstanding the directions?

Maybe everyone could guess at 15 out of 20. Leaving 5 people including themselves as a mystery? Does that work?

I'm wondering though: could we also use this thread to only guess who our specific gifter was? Cause I've been trying to narrow down who I think Killer Queen was, but may not have the time or energy to stalk other people's gifters as well. (And obviously anyone only guessing on their own behalf you wouldn't have to tell if they got it right - only people who submit full lists still.) Let me know if that's okay!

Yeah I was wondering the same thing, because obviously we know who 6 people are, counting ourselves.

alright. Sounds like everyone just wants to guess their individual person. Unfortunately, I cannot provide a prize for people who only manage to get the one person who was their gifter...as it is hypothetically possible for 20 people to win.

 

So my offer still stands...whoever gets the most out of 15 correct will win an extra prize.

 

If you only want to take a guess at the alter who was gifting you, that's fine too, but my hands are sort of tied on how to confirm it if you got it correct without giving away answers.

 

DA members, you may guess at your alter gifter if you'd like, but since you had hands in delivering presents, you will not be able to participate in the overall.

 

Hopefully that covers everything.

It's been driving me crazy, and I've narrowed it down to 4 people. But I'm going to say that New Buddy! was Bianca (victoria_anne).

I did a whole lot of stalking, but am still not confident I know who my gifter is. That said, here is my current thought process:

 

Notable Evidence of Killer Queen:

- Had not read Lying Josephine before this week.

- Are most likely American/Canadian, due to spelling in reviews.

- Not a strong graphic maker (by their own admission - though they made me a killer Hufflepuff Strong image <3).

- Most likely a Queen fan.

- Had a headache the night of the 17th.

 

Between all of those things, a bit of stalking review-styles, and some pretty baseless instincts in which I just sort of went 'it just doesn't feel like them', I knocked off from my list the following:

- Jill (farmgirl)

- Kristin

- Paula

- Sian

- Mallory

- Bex

Unfortunately I couldn't find or confirm certain information about these three from the available date, and so I'm basing my final guess purely on my gut... And it's telling my that Jill (dreamgazer220) is my gal.

 

If it's Jo or Bianca, though, I'll pleased that I got close! And... if you're in my first list of people it's not... then damn, you fooled me good! haha ^.^

 

Whoever you turn out to be, though, thank you so much for the gifts. They were just what I needed this week. <3

 

 

 

 

(Also, I think everyone who only guesses their gifter and not the whole list should simply have to wait until the reveal in a couple days. But that's just my opinion. )

Bex is a very advanced graphic maker, so unless she was lying, I doubt she would have prefaced a graphic gift to me under the guise of 'I'm not very good'. Lizzie and Paula I crossed off because the reviewing styles felt quite different... but I could bring them back into play if I get super hopeless. Hayden I crossed off because I assumed they probably weren't hugely familiar with Queen... Another weak argument, though, so I'll bring you back if I need to. Laura I crossed off because she's English.

 

My original pick was actually Olivia... but I thought I found something that crossed her off the list. Alexis and Shaza I just had a hard time getting a thorough enough read on to know for sure... but there must have been a reason I cut them out of my top three... Damn, I should have kept notes. hahaha

 

Well, that leaves me now at:

Of you three, I... don't know. Let me do a quick-stalk... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... Okay, not Olivia again because of her TDA gallery - it doesn't look at all like the graphic I got, so I would be surprised if they came from the same person, as the aesthetics are quite different. So Shaza or Alexis... The problem is Alexis, you're so hard to stalk! hahaha Ah crap. Shaza is English. So... that just eliminated all of you. Okay! I'm going to backtrack and my new guess - seemingly out of nowhere is LooneyLizzie.

Toomanycurls likes wolfstar, but said she’s known her person forever and I’m a n00b

TidalDragon review style=more solid paragraphs (appx 4), says howdy a lot which makes me giggle. Southern origins? Must creep further.

BellaLestrange87 likes wolfstar...87 is my lucky number and that’s probably not a coincidence. It’s the universe. But reviews seem to be more concise.

1917farmgirl Also a caps lock enthusiast and also concise but with a hint of gush. (what I’d like to claim my style is).

UnluckyStar57 likes James Sirius/OC but my reviewer didn’t read any of those I have posted so probably not.

Alexis Black I think also more concise of a reviewer.

Shazalupin review style seems pretty different.

Jo-we talked about that stuff vaguely and it didn’t sound much like me (but it was also vague soooo) BUT the phrases and niceness has a very Joesque feel to it...and is graphic queen

MuggleMaybe likes wolfstar, semi-similar review style. Squinting suspiciously.

Aphoride-VERY SIMILAR REVIEW STYLES, I creeped through twitter and her location would make sense because I’m pretty sure a bunch of the reviews came in at like 3am my time (according to my email at least).

OR

WriteYourHeartOut-likes wolfstar but her About Me says “It wasn't me.” soooo...mixed signals. Also very similar review styles but more caps lock. I’m not sure if caps lock is a viable way to narrow people down or not.

So here is my equivalent of a report in the Quibbler, because I have no facts to base it on, other than a vague feeling that it wasn't any of the following people because of a) the writing samples I received don't really match what I know of these people's writing, and b)my gift giver's spelling of 'favourite' in the Q&A they left for me (which might have been a trick to lead me off track but for the sake of narrowing down I'm going to say it wasn't).

So. After taking another look at my gifts - particularly at the reviews - I have reanalyzed the sentence that made me so sure they had read Lying Josephine before:

 

My sources tell me that this story is a classic, the Great White Whale of Harry Potter fanfiction, and all who dare to read fic must make their pilgrimage to the temple of this particular fic.

 

Well. Since it was Killer Queen technically speaking... I guess it's possible their 'sources' were... their alter. :')  Clever minx. Anyway, I do know a few people it is definitely not still, and I'll cross them off:

Kristin: This has real potential, as Kristin - the poor thing if she got stuck with me - has already read and reviewed literally every story and every chapter of writing I have ever posted ever. Screw it, I'm just going to start the whole process over." More than that, the graphics might actually line up rather well... style-wise, they're pretty on par with each other... But I just don't feel like its Kristin

 

Meg: Well, with her ringing laughter at my misfortune above, it wouldn't exactly be a stretch to think she's enjoying my ineptitude more than others. - OMG WAIT.
