ineffable_season
Obviously I will continue to lie to myself about making incredible progress with Hardened Hearts (Say Unimaginable Things). For those who don't know, it's a novel length Cedrella Black/Septimus Weasley love story that also explores the questions of: Why are the Weasleys branded as 'blood traitors,' when the canon series begins? And why was Cedrella Black disowned by her family for marrying Septimus Weasley? Full details to be found in various places in my WJ. My goal for the year was to write 10 chapters of this. I think I've done about 5? So it would be cool to write 2 chapters of that this month. Especially since ya know, a BIG MOMENT is about to happen for Cedrella/Septimus. I also have another story idea, ok well I've had about four, but I think this one has finally stuck, for @RonsGirlFriday, Portmantreaupe Challenge. Which, of course, just has to be multi-chapter because I have no chill with anything I ever do. But anyway, just me, back to my usual high drama Molly/Arthur Weasley bs. Without giving too much away, I'm doing something along the lines of: soul crossed time traveling romance (Soulmates + Star Crossed Lovers + Time Travel). And so therefore, I probably will not write this story because every time I declare I have an idea for this challenge, my brain short circuits and is like NOPE. But I actually think this one might be an exception. Because apparently when I try NOT to write Molly/Arthur, I always come back to Molly/Arthur anyway. So this is where I am in my life, I guess. In the meantime, enjoy this badly made picspam for this untitled story. And then of course, @Felpata_Lupin with her "The A in LGBTQA+ Challenge" might have inspired this other idea about Lucy Weasley that's been swirling about in the back of my brain for several months now. Because everyone loves Molly II, but what about Lucy? Again, my love of fringe characters is showing itself again. Anyway here's a snippet of something I wrote that may or may not be included in that story or it might just be something that solely exists in a gdoc/my novel nest. Quote Following the broom returning episode, they found themselves lost in Flourish and Blotts, and at Dad’s insistence that she needed something for her birthday, they purchased a small mountain of books that equaled the cost of the broom. They popped into Tannen McClaughlin’s Tea House afterwards, sharing a muffin and two teas, and even though she didn’t know it at the time, Lucy Weasley finally had a memory that was truly and entirely her own. She would come to learn this three years later when in an act of sharp defiance, she asked, “What does Molly get when you bring her here?” Her tone sounded envious in a way she wished it didn’t. But there was no turning back now. Lucy quickly looked away from her father’s appraising gaze behind his thick glasses, and she stared into the depths of her oversized chai. “Nothing,” Her father replied softly, the sound of him slurping his boring Earl Grey filling the quiet. His cup came down with a light clatter, and he admitted, “This is our thing, Luce.” Goals: 2 chapters of HH "A decent amount" if not the whole soul crossed time travel story written 1 chapter of the Lucy Weasley story
crowsb4bros
hello hello! These sound like totally reasonable goals and I love that you love Arthur and Molly so much. I made you a wee picspam based on my lurking and creeping. Happy writing! for Cedrella/Septimus in Hardened Hearts

ShazaLupin
Hello!! So excited for HH, and more chapters of that! Any hints on what the big thing is? Also, your new projects sound super exciting as well! Especially Molly/Arthur because you always write them so well So that's obviously going to be amazing! Just one question, just wondering what made you think of Lucy II for Chiara's challenge? If there's even a specific reason Happy writing and good luck! Hawksquill
Soooo I basically need to get caught up on Hardened Hearts, hun? Also I am HERE for time traveling Molly and Arthur. Aww, thanks Shaza! The "big thing," is actually kind of a series of "little things," that amount to the "big 'OH SHITE WE HAVE FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER' moment." So that's where we are in the narrative. 2 hours ago, ShazaLupin said: Just one question, just wondering what made you think of Lucy II for Chiara's challenge? If there's even a specific reason Well...the original idea was a "coming out story," for Lucy where she spent some time w/Uncle Charlie on a student exchange program of sorts. And recently I haven't been able to read Charlie Weasley as anything but aro/ace after reading a SUPER WONDERFUL/ADORABLE drabble exploring this last year. So the representation for the challenge was either just him discussing his feelings about this to her and/or her deeply contemplating this aspect of her identity and wondering if it fits for her. I dunno. It's VERY early stages of the idea, but I figured maybe this challenge would be a good opportunity to try and flesh out the idea even more and see if I could. It might not turn into anything because I am writing (somewhat) outside of my own identity. And I chose Lucy specifically because I just have a feeling that she's done everything her parents have expected of her and this thing isn't in their vocalized view of who/what she ought to be. They will be accepting of her, of course (I'm not a monster, after all), but I think she will have a mindset of "oh shit this is different than the life they've envisioned for me," feelings and thus confide in her uncle who leads this "different from her parents" lifestyle. 54 minutes ago, Hawksquill said: Soooo I basically need to get caught up on Hardened Hearts, hun? I'm so behind w/my gift reviews. I am sorry I am going at a glacial pace...I promise it's in my planner to do And I HOPE this Molly/Arthur idea doesn't die. I am already second guessing myself on it. Maybe I just need to embrace the fact that I am a melodramatic writer
PinsandKneazles
I'm loving the descriptions of your NaNo projects, especially the time travelling Molly/Arthur idea! And I really look forward to seeing your take on Lucy Weasley too. That little snippet has me intrigued Just leaving these questions here for you to answer in your own time 1) Have you got a word goal in mind? 2) How far back in time are you planning to send Molly and Arthur, or are they going to travel forwards? 3) I'm looking forward to seeing how you characterise Lucy. What three words sum her up? Best wishes for NaNo - will be rooting for you!
Oregonian
Since you have so many ideas and are "champing at the bit" to get started, I won't slow you down by leaving questions for you to answer. Just wanted to say that I'm rooting for you in your work on HH (a great story) and the new idea for a time-travel Molly/Arthur. Just when I think you must have run out of ideas for them, you always come up with something new!
ineffable_season
Hey, yo, @PinsandKneazlesthank you so much for your encouraging words & the questions! 1) Have you got a word goal in mind? So nothing officially set. I wanted to try and write 2k words a day for the first week and solely focus on the Molly/Arthur story to see if it is even feasible for me to complete before the challenge deadline. I was more focused on the chapters completed goal this time around though because 2/3 projects have "deadlines." 2) How far back in time are you planning to send Molly and Arthur, or are they going to travel forwards? As of right now, they are going backwards in time to 1965. Since I am more of a pantser than a planner however, this could change. 3) I'm looking forward to seeing how you characterise Lucy. What three words sum her up? So planning out Lucy Weasley is still in early stages. My gut is telling me that I envision her as an introvert who is naturally cerebral and also majorly sarcastic to the point of "foot in mouth," syndrome occurs more often than not with her. Which in turn, makes her internalize that aspect of her personality and flail a little on the inside when she offends someone/says the wrong thing. 5 hours ago, Oregonian said: Since you have so many ideas and are "champing at the bit" to get started, I won't slow you down by leaving questions for you to answer. Just when I think you must have run out of ideas for them, you always come up with something new! Vicki, I so appreciate the encouraging words! And god, I know about the ideas thing! I even shock myself with how my brain works. Sometimes I feel like it gets a little manic. The issue with having several half formed ideas like these ones is that I do not always follow through or they fizzle out before they can start. I hope that's not the case with the the Molly/Arthur one though because I was really excited about it when I first thought it up. I can't wait to check out more of your story (I know I have been slacking horribly with reading it! )!

ineffable_season
Day 5 of JulNo and what have I done? Maybe 2k words? But it is pretty clear that the idea that's won out in terms of my focus is for the time being is my untitled Molly/Arthur soul crossed time travel story. I didn't have the idea super fleshed out when JulNo began (surprise, fucking surprise friends), and so I am spending quite a bit of time trying to do that while writing. A couple of things I discovered about this story during this process: It will be multi-chaptered. Again, do I know any other type of writing format? It will have some kind of dual timeline. Percy Weasley will make a cameo appearance. And kind of act as the inciting incident for the main conflict. Gee, I wonder what this could be referring to? Magical theory in regards to "what happens when you have a damning fight with your soulmate" will be explored. That's really all I can think to share at the moment without giving too much away because I do kind of want this to have a "what the eff is happening?" sort of feel to it. Is that my new writing style? Who knows? Anyway, I hope everyone had a stellar kick off on all of their projects! I will try to pop in to as many novel nests as I can, but damn this heat, work stress, being behind on so many review gifts, etc., is all kind of closing in on me Happy Writing Frands! ineffable_season
Day 6 of JulNo: My soul crossed lovers, M/A has a working title ("Mysteries of the Heart"), and a working summary (see below). Quote Molly and Arthur’s steady marriage is put to the test when an argument concerning their third son has them divided. A forgotten prophecy that lay dormant for thirty years, suddenly comes to pass, and their entire lives are upended. Now stuck in the 1960s, where time moves more swiftly than they recall, they must work together to discover how to return to the present. While they try to solve the mystery surrounding their spontaneous trip back in time, they catch glimpses of their former selves, and start to feel old emotions come rushing back as fond memories play out before them. But a mysterious arrest of a top tier Ministry Official coupled with a recall on several magical products, make them begin to wonder if they aren’t the only ones who find themselves in this perculiar predicament. Hopefully I am not giving too much away in the summary. I am dreadful at keeping secrets. Particularly whenever I have a writing idea or something "plot twisty," that I am reeling about on the inside. I am about 5k words into it and have roughly figured out the scenes and the dual timeline and how that will all work, so I am pretty pleased about how everything is shaping up even if the writing is SUPER ROUGH. I figure if I get it all written in draft format by the 24th, I will then have a week to just edit the crap out of this thing and submit at least the first few parts for the Portmantreaupe Challenge and hope it all makes sense outside of my brain. Almost one week in, how is everyone else doing?! Courtney
