Story of The Month Nominations

Recommended Posts

Hello lovely HPFTers!

The Prefects have been talking and we've decided that we'd like to take the time once a month to celebrate an amazing story written by one of you by having a Story of the Month.

How it will work:

At the beginning of each month a prefect will post a nomination thread in which you may nominate your favorite stories. If a story that you love has already been nominated, you may second or third that nomination.

Mid month, a prefect will post a voting poll with the stories that received the most votes. Don't worry about having to rush. You'll have about 10 days to read the stories and vote on your favorite!

We will announce the winner on the first of every month! The winner will receive a cool prize or two!

So...for this month, please go ahead and post your nominations in this thread using the following format.

Title:

Author:

Link(s) to story With Rating:

Warnings (if applicable):

Why do you think this story deserves to be nominated?:

Rules for nomination:

1. All stories that have been nominated must have been updated sometime since January 2016.

2. Stories can be any genre, character type, fandom, or length.

3. No NC-17 rated stories.

4. Any story nominated must follow site guidelines.

5. Stories can be posted on AO3, FF.net, or HPFF.

6. You may only nominate one story. If you second or third another nomination, that counts as your nomination.

7. Stories do not have to be complete to be nominated. WIPs are acceptable.

8. While there are lots of lovely authors out there, we'd like to focus specifically on the ones who belong to HPFT, so try to double check that the person you nominate has an account here.

Nominations will close on September 15th, 2016

Title:Tell Me Who You Are

Author: WindingArrow

Link(s) to story: AO3 | HPFF G/12+

Warnings (if applicable): Contains Profanity, Scenes of a Mild Sexual Nature

Why do you think this story deserves to be nominated?: I was drawn into this story in the first chapter. Just totally in love with the OC (Mark the Muggle) and dying to know what would happen between him and Dominique when meeting her family. That got me all pumped for chapter 2 when...  :o shit happens that made me yell, cry, and demand more chapters. This is an addicting short story which everyone should definitely read. I love how flawed and believable the characters are and oh my the drama.

Title: Toward the Heights

Author: Slide

Link(s) to story With Rating: HPFF(15+)

Warnings (if applicable): Contains profanity, Strong violence

Why do you think this story deserves to be nominated?: As we read through, we notice this is the story how Ron quit the Auror job. The conversations between Ron and his brother are well written. The description of the weather in Britain added the quiet and subdued but strong seasoning with a solitary hero, Harry Potter who would carry on his Auror job, which is the exact opposite way of Ron's future life. The writing style is very impreseive emotionally.

Title: The Harder They Fall

Author: victoria_anne

Link(s) to story With Rating: HPFF (M)

Warnings (if applicable): contains profanity, strong violence, scenes of a sexual nature, substance abuse, sensitive topic/issue/theme

Why do you think this story deserves to be nominated?: This story has everything.  A Slytherin male lead you can't help but root for despite his jerk-ish tendencies, a sarcastic Hufflepuff female lead, witty banter, boys being boys, a mysterious plot, and an incredible Tom Riddle. The dialogue and descriptions are both enough to paint a picture and make the story read like a movie in your mind.  It's one of the few times where the sequel is better than the first - it does have spoilers for the end of Hero, but it can also be read on its own if you don't mind that. There's a lot of heavy emotions in here - battling with grief, a power struggle - and the author does an amazing job of balancing both and keeping the characters consistent while letting them grow naturally. It's definitely a must-read.

Why do you think this story deserves to be nominated?: This story is utterly brilliant and expertly written. The scenario is clever and immensely intriguing. Dom and Mark are flawed but impossible not to love and root for, and the rest of Dom's family is really well characterized, too. This is one of those fics that becomes head canon the moment you read it.

Title: Shattered

Author: dreamgazer220

Link(s) to story With Rating: HPFF|AO3 (M)

Warnings (if applicable): Contains profanity, Mild violence, Substance abuse, Sensitive topic/issue/theme, Implied/Referenced Suicide Depression

Why do you think this story deserves to be nominated?:

This story explores some true darkness in a post-Second War world where our beloved Dean Thomas is not at all adjusting well to the after effects of losing his dearest friend. Filled with incredible angst, some beautiful writing, and a question of sanity, this story really makes you stop and wonder how strong you would be in a similar situation. It's a cold reminder that not everyone who made it out of the war alive had a happy ending. Warning- there will be tears.
