northbound24 Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 So Camp Nano, the writing worlds answer to Ask For Whom The Bell Tolls, It Tolls for Thee, is upon us. *clears throat* Now the dramatics are over lets get down to business. There are potentially two projects ahead for Nano this year: THE FLUFF CHALLENGE Project One is @RogueSlytherinCadet's challenge which has taken the FF discord by storm. I've not really done fluff before so this 30 prompt thing will be a genuine challenge. I mainly focus on my HP OC Eddie Teague and will be continuing that here, there will be bits of Neville/Hannah in there too because Neville is still the lovable dork we know and love though his canon character development happens quicker here because of changes that are both stated and hinted at in these prompts. Definitely doing the classic: "you said you can't dance!" "No, I said I don't dance, not that I couldn't dance" cliché though! (IN)ACCURATE HISTORICAL ADVENTURE STORY Project Two is a little excuse to fill in some of my HP AU OC's Teague family history, though it's not going to be 100% accurate historically as the framing device is Eddie telling the story based on the scraps of evidence he has and the family legend he heard as a kid. The Setting England in the reign of Edward the First 'The Longshanks' The Forest of Dean under the control of Emeric the Evil. The Plot Edward I conscripts every wizard and muggle of full age in Gloucestershire into his service to battle Emeric the Evil. The Characters so Far Fechin the Poet: Eddie's earliest Teague ancestor, a man of unknown origin supposedly Irish. Godwin Peverell: Harry Potter's direct ancestor. father of Iolanthe and son of Ignotus Peverell Hardwin Potter: Harry's other direct ancestor, something of a hero like Harry Mag of the Wood: Wizard hermit with a fondness for apples Edward I, the Longshanks: King of England Emeric the Evil: Wizard Overlord, former Gryffindor Hopefully this makes sense and lets all enjoy Nano this year!
Oregonian Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Oh, I love the idea of your inaccurate historic adventure story! No matter how much fascinating and enjoyable research you do on the period, and the conditions and Edward Longshanks (I mentioned him in my story Relics, so it perks me up to see that you will include him in this story), it is bound to turn out pretty "inaccurate" when you include all these witches and wizards. We definitely need to know more about Emeric the Evil!
northbound24 Posted March 28, 2022 Author Posted March 28, 2022 Yeah, the historic inaccurate adventure is basically wizarding Braveheart in terms of accuracy, Edward I is like M in the Bond Movies here as the narrator is just going off the fact Fechin, Hardwin, Godwin and Mag where recorded as part of Edward I's 'Wizard Army' against Emeric in this universe, and embellishing it with logical guesswork and of course there's Edward's Court Mage
RonsGirlFriday Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Dave, I'm so excited to see more from you on the archives! How long is your historical adventure story meant to be? I love that you plan to have Eddie tell the story -- that will be really entertaining, and also I imagine may solve a lot of potential difficulties that come with writing historical fiction like trying to keep the language accurate to the period and so forth.
northbound24 Posted April 2, 2022 Author Posted April 2, 2022 Update: The framing device for the historical adventure's narrator has haphazardly formed like a drunk ferret on Strove Tuesday: It's 1994, and in a bid to mend bridges with Eddie and the Teague family in general after the fallout of the previous year. Albus Dumbledore offers Eddie a get out clause in the now fourth year student's mandated year long detentions
Oregonian Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 A good idea. Sometimes it's just better to clear the slate and start over.
northbound24 Posted April 8, 2022 Author Posted April 8, 2022 Sneak peek at the start of the first fluff prompt piece: The news of the Yule Ball hadn’t bothered the Teague brothers, much to their friends and Malfoy’s shock. “It’s just a fancy barn dance.” Eddie Teague said at breakfast, the day after Flitwick had told the entirety of Ravenclaw house about the event, “Nothin’ to worry about, guys.” Padma raised an eyebrow while Terry choked on his bacon. Anthony Goldstein looked stumped, “Nothing to worry about! Eddie, mate. It’s proper dancing, suits and everything” “Got it covered Tony, trust me it’ll be fun” Eddie said, finishing his mug of tea with a gulp.
northbound24 Posted April 12, 2022 Author Posted April 12, 2022 A little brotherly moment between Eddie, Neville and Smudger: The wireless began playing a tune and, one by one, the trio sang a line: “Walking through a fair on Midsummer's day, I saw her.” “Twirling through the crowd, feet light as air.” “Hair of jet, eyes of blue, and a smile as warm as.. “ “...Firewhiskey on a cold Sunday” they finished together. “Every bloody time.” Smudger laughed.
