Another question - is the place we're given meant to be in the story as the named place, or just inspire a setting? For example, if we were writing a HP story and our location was Thor's Well, should the story specifically take place there, or could it take place in a setting resembling it but not necessarily named/in the same country?

It can totally just be heavily inspired by that location! We don't want to lock anyone into a super specific location/setting.  Your cards:

Your "person" can be an OC or a faceclaim for a canon HP character (if you choose to write HP fic over OF). Either way works.
