You Matter, Thanks for Writing

Two years ago, in the midst of the MeToo fest that left me triggered every damn day, unable to sleep well and unable to function for months, I rediscovered fanfiction. In particular I came back to the Harry Potter fandom, and I in fact read everything I could get my hands on (like EVERY BIT) in one OTP since 2004 on. It took me three months, but I read millions and millions of words, and when I was reading it didn't hurt, and I could forget my own issues in favor of riding along with the charact

Chuffed

My major work in progress, Time Immemorial (M) has been nominated for a Marauder's Medal for best work in progress through the Shrieking Shack Society group on Facebook. There are so many good stories alongside it, I'm feeling very thankful. I've honestly already won just by being nominated. Anyone interested in checking it out can see the full list of nominations with links where available, or if so inclined anyone can cast a vote. There are some of my favourite Marauder works up there so it is

On Consent.

A Question: Is the power differential between male and female so uneven that there can never be true consent between the two?  Some background first:  I was reviewing a number of possible challenges that I was considering over the next several months. Of the three two were purely smexy if you know what I mean. *wink wink* *nudge nudge* I showed the prompts to a close friend to gauge her interest and it sparked a discussion about certain kinks. Now, she identifies as a radfem and goes to ral

The Giant Squid

I was looking at a meme that was asserting that the presence of a mundane Giant Squid in the Great Lake at Hogwarts was an underappreciated phenomena, specifically that magical people ALSO find cephalopods incredibly fascinating.  Here's the thing: Unless the lake in the midst of the Scottish Highlands is a saltwater lake, that's no mundane Squid. In spite of the species being pervasive throughout the world, even to the point of being able to hunt out of the water or unscrew the lid of a ja

These Spells Are Not Gluten Free

So, pursuant to my interest in using textiles and braids as spells, I was doing some reading on wheat weaving, known as 'corn dollies' in the UK. It is pretty fascinating as a tradition and some variant of it exists where-ever wheat was cultivated throughout the world. The last bit of wheat harvested for the year is taken and woven into a blessing for the farmer's home. The lore suggests that in some areas the spirit of the crop was thought to be forced down into the last bit, so it was being ta

Everything's a Shambles

So I was interested in textiles and their use as spells. The idea, although not used often is not a new one. If you enjoy stories about witches and witchcraft, of course I recommend Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, and in particular his later witchworks surrounding Tiffany Aching (starting with Wee Free Men).  A shamble is an instrument put together by a witch who needs a little help in deciphering a feeling or decide something, or perhaps see a little into the future. It is comprised of

Pro Tip

@Ineke was very kind in PMing me an extra helping hand. My first submission was released months ago and I didn't see the email from the site that accepted it, so the silence was assumed normal. It turns out every notification and message from HPFT has been filtering to my spam box this whole time. Makes a lot of sense. Now.  I am an idiot, thank you. :)

Green

Alright, so I've been a member of this community for over a year now and I have to admit, I feel a bit like a child staring in on a tank at the Aquarium. I am sure at some point I'll manage to fall in, or grow up to be rich enough to pay my way in for a scuba session, but please forgive me if I don't seem to understand how this whole thing works. I suppose my content count is low because I don't post, so I'll have a go at it. My only complaint so far is the archive side of things has no direct w
