Welcome one and all to the closing ceremonies of the Wizarding Universiade. During this hallowed event-closing tradition, your Arbiters of Chaos will recount information about the universities’ performances in each event, as well as the information you’re all really here for - the announcement of the event’s ultimate victor! :MeowParty:

As a reminder:

  • Gryffindor: Universitas Corvi
  • Hufflepuff: Universitas Persei
  • Ravenclaw: Universitas Hydrae
  • Slytherin: Universitas Lyrae

Clandestine (Competitive) Gnome Throwing

The first game of the universiade tested competitor’s ability to sneak into other university compounds, steal their gnomes, and see how far they can throw them. (This one’s more of a universiade tradition than an event itself, but over time it’s come to be considered just as important a part of the games.

Only Universitas Corvi and Hydrae managed to steal all three gnomes.

Corvi - 333 points
Hydrae - 332 points
Persei - 98 points
Lyrae - 5 points

Ludo Bagman’s Bookie Emporium

For a full detailed list of results from the Bookie Emporium, check out +this topic.

Corvi - 92 points
Hydrae - 77 points
Persei - 67 points
Lyrae - 15 points

Plato’s Gambling Den

The game of bean roulette served to be equal parts luck and work - although some competitors did show remarkable streaks of good luck. @dreamshadow of Universitas Persei, for example, made only 3 incorrect guesses across all 3 rounds, and @toomanycurls of Universitas Lyrae guessed all 5 correctly in the first round.

All universities received full points for this event.

Corvi - 150 points
Persei - 150 points
Hydrae - 150 points
Lyrae - 150 points

The Shipwreck Beach

On the beach, magical sandcastle building resulted in some… interesting structures. Houses all showed general proclivities for certain features - Corvi, for example, installed no fewer than 74 moats. Persei, on the other hand, took a preference for creating 49 inner defenses and 47 outer walls. And Hydrae was perhaps the most evenly distributed of them all, though they did show preferences for inner towers in a way that no other university did - they built 26 of them as compared to Corvi’s 7 and Persei’s 1.

Once all building came to a stop, the final result was 2870 points for Corvi, 2420 points for Persei, 1745 for Hydrae, and 95 for Lyrae. Translated into House Cup placement points, the standings for this event were…

Corvi - 300 points
Persei - 225 points
Hydrae - 150 points
Lyrae - 75 points

Grove of Poseidon Golf Course

Many a wizarding golf participant coaxed begrudging golf balls - with names like tiny blob, granger danger, and snapes on a plane - into the holes with their trivia knowledge. The rapid-fire questions yielded some speedy responses from the universities, and a final score breakdown of:

Persei - 60 points
Corvi - 30 points
Hydrae - 25 points
Lyrae - 0 points

The Pyromancer’s Odeon

One wrong card (post) and the whole thing went boom! Your local Arbiters of Chaos had some good fun testing just how many explosion gifs we could find - especially right at the start of the game, when explosions were… frequent.

At the end of the game, Corvi had 132 points, Hydrae had 117 points, Persei had 33 points, and Lyrae had 0 points. Since the final totals were delivered as placement points, the results shook out as:

Corvi - 100 points
Hydrae - 75 points
Persei - 50 points
Lyrae - 0 points

The Nereid Cove

To catch these elusive flying seahorses, participants had to use clues and ciphers to locate them in their natural habitats - all across the HPFT forums. Hydrae ultimately finished the race to find all the seahorses first, closely followed by Corvi and then Persei.

Hydrae - 200 points
Corvi - 140 points
Persei - 100 points
Lyrae - 0 points

The Hippodrome of Atlantis

The universiade’s broom racing event took place over four grueling days, as participants ran their own relays by reviewing connecting stories at breakneck speeds. (No really, y’all are wildly impressive.)

In addition to all the reviewing, many a bonus were claimed - Corvi claimed 7 author bonuses and 6 chapter bonuses, Persei claimed 8 author bonuses and 6 chapter bonuses, and Hydrae claimed 6 author bonuses and 5 chapter bonuses.

Our longest individual relays were… @RonsGirlFriday with 79 reviews, @shadowycorner with 110 reviews, @magemadi with 115 reviews, and @just.a.willow.tree with 129 reviews!

Persei - 665 points
Corvi - 608 points
Hydrae - 576 points
Lyrae - 0 points

Palaestra of Ares

We ended up this year's wizarding universiade in the traditional way: a round of chaotic wizard duels! Participants had to choose between attacking spells (stupefy) and defensive spells (expelliarmus and protego), and faced off against each of the other three universities simultaneously. After a series of hard-fought battles, Persei won all three of their duels, Corvi won two, and Hydrae won one.

Persei - 300 points
Corvi - 200 points
Hydrae - 100 points
Lyrae - 0 points

At the end of all these events, the Wizarding Universiade has its newest champion, the university that can brag about their accomplishments for the next seven years until the next Universiade! (Or, uh, until the next sitewide event begins.)

Final Standings:

In fourth place, with 245 points, Universitas Lyrae (Slytherin)!
In third place, with 1685 points, Universitas Hydrae (Ravenclaw)!
In second place, with 1715 points, Universitas Persei (Hufflepuff)!
And in first place, winning this year’s finale with 1953 points, Universitas Corvi (Gryffindor)!

Stay tuned for a full points update announcing the final winners of the 2019-2020 House Cup! And if you participated in this event or the Springtime Writing Challenge, please be sure to fill out this quarter's +event survey by August 25!
