    Recommendations FAQ

    By abhorsen.

How do I contribute to the rec section? To contribute, you'll need to start your own rec blog by going to "Create Blog" and then selecting whatever category you want to make recs in. If you want to recommend something that doesn't have its own subcategory yet or just want to keep everything within one blog, you can just select the broader "Recommendations" category.   How do I search for fics I want? You can click a tag directly in a rec, or you can go to +this link. Typ

Black History Month: Essential Black Authors to Read | The Daily Show's List

    By toomanycurls

One hallmark of any Black History Month is getting a reading list. More important than a reading list is knowing what people have thought of books or if they are planning to read any on a given list so:  Here is a list transcribed from Essential Black Authors to Read | The Daily Show. I'd love to know which people have read or are planning to read from this list or from any list on Black History Month.  STAMPED: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Ibram Kendi and Jason Reynolds  M

November 2017 Bulletin

Hello, all! One of your headmistresses may or may not have been slowly losing her mind over the topic clutter every month , so we decided to compile all of our major monthly announcements into one big bulletin that we'll post at the beginning of the month. (Plus a few headers, because why not.) Hopefully you enjoy this new format! We're happy to announce that @MalfoysAngel will be moving over the gamekeeper position. We won't be adding

Thank You, Rose!!

ROSE APPRECIATION BLOG!!!!!   @toomanycurls PicSpam by RoxiMalfoy My Dear Rose…    I've thought a lot about what I wanted to say to you in this. But I've also had the pleasure of seeing first-hand over the past few weeks just how BIG of an impact you've had here on SO MANY people in this community!!! Two weeks ago, I only knew you from my own personal experience. But now, I've had the opportunity to share

Certified Author Status

New and edited chapters submitted to our archive must be approved by an auror (archive validator) before they're made visible to the public, to ensure that they follow our archive's site guidelines. Every so often, we evaluate author accounts to determine whether to grant them Certified Author status (or CA status, for short). Being a CA allows you to bypass the queue and post your chapters directly to the archive; it requires a lot of trust not only in your intentions but also in your abil

Branwen Appreciation Post!

I'm here to post a gift on behalf of a Pass It Along participant.  To: abhorsen. From: Keeper of the North - - - For my last gift in the Pass It Along Challenge, I thought it was appropriate to share an appreciation post for everything my giftee has done for HPFT.  She’s known around this corner of the internet as abhorsen., but you might also know her as Beeezie or Branwen.   Here’s just a few of the many things we love about her: She’s one of our fearless l

All About Activity Streams

Most of us are accustomed to activity streams (or newsfeeds) from popular applications such as Facebook and Twitter.  We have something akin to that here at FanficTalk.  Since it doesn't work identically to more-familiar applications, let's run over some information about it. What is an activity stream?  Simply put, it's a stream or list of activity that occurs on the forums.  Each activity has certain properties (what type of activity it is, time it happened, whether it was posted by someo

Member Groups & Ranks

Here at FanficTalk, we have both member groups and ranks.  Ranks are based on your content (posts, statuses, and blog entries) count.  Member groups determine what you can see and do around the site, with the major difference (aside from staff/prefects) being which common room you can see.  You can be in more than one member group (Professor and Gryffindor, Prefect and Slytherin, etc.), one of which will primary and which will dictate which color your name appears around the site.  A person's pr

Glossary of Common Terms

There are several terms and acronyms which are often used either in the fanfiction world in general or on FanficTalk specifically.  If you're not familiar with them, it can be confusing and intimidating to see so many people tossing them around.  If there's a term missing you think should be included, contact a staffer so we can add it to this list. FROGS 2017 Winners

Hey, HPFT! It's 2019, but I'm reorganizing some things and realized that we weren't really regularly using the staff blog back when we did our first FROGS awards in 2017... so I'm posting them here, too. You can find the original topic +here and our youtube livestream +here.
