The Crackship Challenge Results

The Crackship Challenge Results Welcome to the results of the Crackship Challenge! The requirements for this challenge were simple -- write a fic of two highly unlikely and randomized characters as a believable romantic story! Participants were given two randomly assigned characters as their ship, as a crackship is usually defined as a ship that would not happen in canon due to regular storytelling purposes or due to timeline barriers. I received 3 wonderful entries, all of which

Writing Tips - How to Write Science Realistically When You’re Not a Scientist

Hey folks!   As a lover of fiction and a lover of science, I generally enjoy it a lot when fiction (both fan fiction & original fiction) put elements of science in because it combines two of my greatest loves! While this generally comes in the form of the Science Fiction genre, I figure it wouldn’t hurt to provide some tips when bringing up science in a decidedly different genre of writing. In terms of Harry Potter fan fiction, I generally think of science coming up when you’re writing

Sorting Terra Olivier [Planetary Boundaries]

Terra Olivier's Sorting Hello, and welcome to my first attempt at using the sortinghatchats+ system to sort a character of mine, rather than just myself! This particular sorting is happening primarily because it has to due to a House Cup Finale minigame task, but also because I definitely wanted to sort my two main characters from my sci-fi screenplay, Planetary Boundaries+, to help develop their characters further.  Terra Olivier is one of my two main characters who are onboard the de

2020 FROGS Awards Nominations Statistical Analysis Fun! So as many of you are aware, the FROGS Awards+ are currently happening, and nominations closed earlier today. Introspections on Sorting

Hello friends, I am here jumping on that good good sortinghatchats bandwagon! For those of you curious, sortinghatchats started out on tumblr, and they have a page explaining the basics+ of their methods for the sorting quiz+ they came up with.  Now, for those of you who know me pretty well (and, according to Twitter polls, apparently) a lot of you think I am a Ravenclaw, with Slytherin or Hufflepuff tendencies.  According to the sortinghatchats system, I am a Ravenclaw Primary with a

The Broadway Musical Song Challenge Results

🎶 The Broadway Musical Song Challenge! 🎶 Welcome to the results blog post for the second challenge I've hosted here on HPFT! The premise of this challenge was rather straightforward -- incorporate a song from a Broadway musical into a fic, whether that be in true songfic form or moreso as inspiration for the fic overall. I received 9 fantastic entries and so judging was actually quite difficult! Naturally, I made a spreadsheet, and here's how things worked.     Judging Catego

Life Updates!

Hi everyone! ? I just thought I'd make a blog post about some big things that are happening in my life because it's about to get crazy for me in RL!  So first things first:   I moved halfway across the United States from Iowa (Midwest) to California (West Coast) for graduate school! I'll be going for my PhD in chemistry -- specifically, looking at atmospheric chemistry in the environment (think smog, forest fire smoke, air pollution, etc) and hopefully will be doing a mixture of laborato

Soulmate AU and Random Prompt Challenge Results!

Hello everyone! So I hosted the Soulmate AU and Random Prompt Challenge from February until the beginning of May, and I've got the results here!  Firstly, the challenge required the participants to combine a given Soulmate AU trope prompt and a Random prompt with a pairing of their choice. An example of this is where the pair have matching tattoo designs on their wrists, and Person A is a barista while Person B has a ridiculous coffee order, with the pairing of Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley.

Helloween - I mean Halloween House week....

Hi all!  It's been a minute, or several, I guess. As always, as soon as the school year hit, my activity on this site plummeted. Curse you, college and club involvements! I've been meaning to get back into my writing, but with graduate school applications due in less than two months, along with running two very different and large clubs on campus, not to mention my regular schoolwork and actual jobs, it's fallen onto the furthest back burner.  So this week is National Chemistry Week for
